HOW I STARTED + RUN MY BLOG

Dear Humans,

How I Started

When I started this blog I had no idea what I was doing and I still don't but I knew that I couldn't let the unknown scare me away. You can only learn by trying and exploring. At University we needed to create a website as a part of one of our units as well as undergo work experience. The purpose of my site was to promote myself as a Freelance Journalist, Photographer and to showcase my skills for future employers. Many of my classmates used Wix as their service provider so I decided to give it a try. You are given an initial free Wix site which means your domain name will look something like this 'DEARHUMANSWITHLOVE.WIX.COM'.

When I pushed myself to finally start this blog I decided to continue using Wix as I had experience with it and it had worked well for me so far. I knew I had to be professional, purchase a Domain name and connect it to my Wix website. I struggled for a short while deciding on a blog name and after reading 50 blog posts on how important it is to choose 'THE RIGHT ONE' I knew I had to make the right decision. I chose Dear Humans With Love because I knew eventually my blog will be more than just a blog. I wanted it to be a platform that connects humans, encourages and helps people, branched off into events and somewhere I could sell my photography and other future ventures, with love.

DearHumansWithLove.com was purchased on GoDaddy in no time, I will try to find out how much it was and in order to make this blog post as informative as I can but it isn't expensive at all. Once I had my domain name and my blog was underway I had to upgrade my Wix account to a Premium Combo account so that I could connect my domain name, have more storage space, get a free domain name, remove Wix ads and more, this is the most popular deal at just £7.76 a month. I had to connect the domain, which was explained clearly online on both Wix and Go Daddy and then promoted away.

If I was starting my blog now I would have promoted it a little better because I have a wider knowledge on Marketing strategies and promotion. However, it started off well and here is my very first blog post that I was so excited to post. > THE LOW DOWN <

I didn't want it to be too long, but I wanted it to show my personally and who I am as a person, first impressions and all of that. I posted a blog for everyday of my first week blogging which were as follows

August 1st The Low Down

August 2nd My book: Young London Vision & Voices

August 3rd Covent Garden Date Night & Drinks

August 4th Dear Cousins, With Love

August 5th How University changed me

August 6th Dear Dark Girls

How I run

Today I am still using Wix, but honestly I have had a few thoughts on changing my domain name to something more personal. For now I shall keep it the same though. Wix has been difficult at times, there are a few site glitches that have caused my content to move around or not look great on mobile but I haven't had any of those issues of recent. There is an edit mobile view option so I can always ensure my site is mobile friendly.

I have used Square Space before and have also recommend it to others to start there blog. The site is well built and gives off a professional finish, however you can definitely have more creativity and independence on Wix which is what suited my blog and brand. I hope this was insightful for anyone wanting to start a blog or seeking blog advice.
